Just when I was ready to give World at War some props

So as many of you know I uninstalled World at War last month and never really thought twice about it until my friend called me a few days ago to tell me they released the new map pack. So against my gut feeling I went ahead and re-installed the game.
The first thing I noticed was that I had to start again, from rank 1. Why is that, exactly? Aren’t our stats stored server side? Or are they stored locally? I could have sworn they were stored server side which would beg the question why do we have to re-rank up when it’s re-installed? Shouldn’t it automatically give us our rank back when we connect to their server? Furthermore, I *SHOULD* be on my 3rd prestige but Treyarch purged a ton of accounts without explanation about a month after release, you guys remember that? Yea, I signed on one day and all of my rank/stats were POOF gone. There were like 10 gazillionbillion threads about it on the official Call of Duty forums. Treyarch, to my knowledge, never gave any explanation or apology. It would have been nice to at leats get an apology like “Hey, we had some server errors and the 75 hours of playtime you had has disappeared, you’re going to have to start again, sorry.”. No apology, no explanation. F you too, Treyarch.
So I digress, last night I played COD5 for the first time in a really long time and I must say it wasn’t bad, the new maps are pretty cool too. It seems they fixed the terrible browser issues. I didn’t notice if they fixed the bug where nades stick in the trees when you throw them, did they finally fix that bug?
Oh, they also fixed the custom maps issue, before any custom map you wanted to play on it could only download at like 12KB per second so it would take 20min+ to download a custom map. Also, unlike IW, they don’t have the browser set to automatically filter custom servers which is really cool. IW kind of shit on the custom servers and community by doing that. Granted it’s easy to tell the browser to show all servers but there are a lot of noobs out there who have no clue.
Anyhow, back to my profile trouble, last night I played up to rank 8 and went to bed, today I got on and I was rank 1 again. I assumed it was just the server I was on tonight, must have been one of those custom servers with custom ranks, right? Wrong. After playing S&D today for about 20min, up to rank 4, I wanted to change my graphic settings so I exited the game and when I re-started it I was back to rank 1 again with the settings back to how they were before I had just changed them. So now it was pretty clear that not only was it not saving my rank and stats, it’s failing to save the control and graphic settings as well.
I just really don’t know WTF is wrong with this game, how can you F up so bad? It’s just terrible coding, I really don’t know what else to say. There seem to be bugs and crashes everytime I turn around and it literally makes the game un-playable. I finally uninstalled the game again tonight for the last time, there is just no winning with World at War. I wash my hands, I am done! The IW coded Call of Duty 6 will be out in no time, until it’s out I’ll play my trusty COD4.
P.S. Hey, IW, hows about some screens already? You’re F’ing killing us here with the lack of details and info 
I can’t put into words how happy I am that IW is doing Call of Duty 6. I hope Activision has learned a lesson form all of this. Call of uty 4 was an epically successful game, why they snatched the dev rights away from IW and gave them to Treyarch after such a huge hit is beyond me. Treyarch even got to use IW’s game engine and they STILL managed to F’d it up, I mean wow.

Electronic Arts (EA) been throwing punches at Modern Warfare 2 for sometime claiming that the new Battlefield: Bad Company from the DICE studio would have dedicated servers for the PC gamers. It will be valuing the importance of PC gameplay and also customization of it.
Jens Uwe, headmaster of the European division of EA, said in an interview on Friday, “In March we will launch Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which is our first strong attack on Call Of Duty… The shooter space is one we don’t want to give up. It’s an important genre and we were the number one. So we are certainly working on how we can get that crown back and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is an important product in that context.”
One who has played first Bad Company as well as the Modern Warfare titles may be knowing well that the games are very different in style and also in gunplay. We may also have found out that DICE is on the way of making some changes in it such as making the enemies more easier to kill to fall in line.
That sir, was the greatest thread I have ever read. Treyarch have messed up the whole COD series. The single player sucked. I prefer WWII battles, but the missions were so bad. The only one which was kinda good, but was WAY to short was the mission where you are sniping with Reznov in Stalingrad. Which was obviously copied from COD4, when CptPrice and Macmillan were going through that Chenobryl(spelling error). They messed up COD3, I couldn’t play that on PC because they weren’t bothered to put it on the system. They messed up the LAN Co-op in COD5. I do not want to play it ever again. Speedy Egbert was a better game. (Look that up, it is sooo good)
I believe that Infinity Ward have managed to get the rights to do COD6 ,COD7, COD8 e.t.c

1st thing which I’m sure you’ve figured out by now is that your stats are stored locally, which posts the question why it says downloading account data when you log on :S
They are stored in your hidden folders somewhere like “Documents and settings//local Settings/Activision/Call of Duty 5/…..”
Thankfully there is a small program out that can back it all up for you.
2nd, I totally agree with you. CoD5 was a shambles and I too uninstalled it. Recently re-installed it again as they have patch 1.3 out now which means i can have my beloved “cg_fov 80″ stick
They still haven’t fixed the grenades sticking to trees which sucks. The reason I installed again was i decided to boycott the game till they fixed 90% of the problems. Biggest of all the fast rank servers, and the under the map glitches on basically every map!!!!
I really don’t get how treyarch made such a piss up. They nicked CoD4, put a skin on it, made a few changes for the better…. then added problems?!?! omg, wtf, bbq!!! How do you do that? What smart arse decided it would be a good idea to allow people to rank up so dam fast? it eliminated the whole point of the ranking system which is the main feature in the flipping game….
Anyway, so far so good at the moment. Apart from my dam internet connection which ends up as 0.4Mb/s down and a ping of 200 during peak times, the only bad thing I’ve come across was a cheater last night. In for 5 minutes, using a browning, ends up with a score of 150 to 5! He was using aimbot and punkbuster just sat there going “I’m on my tea break, go away” -.- (p.s. I have a demo of it too)
So yeah, not bad apart from that. Still, I play my trusty CoD4 most of the time, and a few of my clan members have found a new love for the obscurity mod thats out for it =D

CoD 5 is fun as hell, while not being as fun as CoD 4. You’re over analyzing, and you need to get a life. Don’t like a game? Don’t buy it, or sell it on ebay after you painstakingly bought it. I have a sneaking suspicion you like CoD5 because you can sit around and bitch. Plus both games are way better on the console anyways.

Dude, trav this is just a rant, let them say what they want. But i do agree with what you said about the console gameplay and how it was. I agree it is better in every way. So people if you really want to have fun playing games. Buy a console, preferably a 360.

COD 5 looked good with all the Japanese tactics and weapons introduced, but it kind of gets boring after all the other games but 1 were WW2. Whilst WW2 is quite interesting repeating the same things over and over again bore people. COD 4 was very successful, if not only because of the Modern theme was enough to amaze people. COD 6 looks interesting, but removing the popular weapons in it might cause a stir. Throwing out the scorpion and P90 and adding the SA80 wasn’t smart.
What I would love to see though is for a game to either go further into the past into WW2, say WW1 or even the Civil War (I remember there was a nice Civil War FPS I once played) or better yet, go into the most revolutionary war of all time, Vietnam. There are very few Vietnam games around, and I have only played 2 Vietnam FPS, plus 1 third person shooter. I would be very interesting for a Vietnam game to be realeased with much more popularity. I have played a C&C Generals Zero Hour Vietnam war mod and it is truly amazing and gripping, with a lot of fun to fill years of playing for such a dead game.
Some ideas for a Vietnam COD FPS:
The ability to call in Napalm strikes on enemy positions, flushing them out of the trees that you couldn’t see through.
A camouflage feature for the jungle.
A big introduction to NVA and VC tactics, such as Jungle Warfare and supporting armour.
Deployable machine guns such as the M60, RPD and Maxim. I remember deploying MGs back in COD Finest Hour.
NVA and VC traps, like grenade trip wires, bouncing betties and pipe RPG traps.
Tree snipers, wearing camo gear and firing away with an SVD or Mosin-Nagant.
Village battles, with innocent people caught in the center of it as rounds and napalm fly through.
Bring back the COD 5 flamethrower, and use it to burn down trees revealing the enemy.
Finally hidden camo bunkers, holding little nasties are like machine guns, RPGs. Also the introduction of scary things like moving T-34 and T-54 tanks hidden through the trees. You look around frantically, as you hear the sound of grinding tracks but see nothing. Then BOOOOOM a shell hits the tree next to you. THAT would scare the pants off some players.
Sorry about the large post but this is something I believe in alot, and I certainly think there is potential for an excellent COD Vietnam War FPS.

cod vietnam would be sooo lame you need to do one like world war 3! (but like 2050 not the year 3000). you could like have china, vietnam and north korea (all the commies) v.s like NATO and russia that would be great!
As for cod waw i play on PC and its not that bad i play on non punkbuster servers and theres no cheats or hackers, the only cheater i saw went under the map on castle and got kicked by everyone else.
Cod 6 is gonna be great no1 used the skorpion and the p90 just got used by lvl 55 noobs but the guns i wnat on it are SA80, L86 LSW, FN FiVE SeVeN, AK-101, M468, that corner shot gun and that full auto shottie (that would but rape :-)). I also think that there should be more perks like 6X 12X scope different types of red dot sight and custom characters>

The Vietnam War is quite interesting actually. If you want to have impossible odds come at you and your men, you’d like it. Long Tan saw 100 Aussies take on 4000 VC and just managed to survive thanks to training and artillery support. The South Koreans achieved a kill to death ratio of 25:1. In fact both these countries had better achievements military wise compared to the USA and South Vietnam. Plus the themes could of been much more interesting, Vietnam is rarely explored by FPS and hence why everyone thinks it is crap compared to WW2 or modern warfare shooters, because there are very few of them compared to hundreds of WW2.
If you like variety, scary situations, and a lot of action and tactics, Vietnam is the way to go. Much more interesting than WW2 and just as good as Modern Warfare.

Whoever said the Civil War FPS was good is dead wrong. Yeah, great game, no multiplayer, crap quality, horrible AI, a crappy storyline, no lifelike characters, and sticks for guns. DO NOT DO ANYTHING BEFORE WORLD WAR 1.

Hey a lot o people like those cowboy movies, and western games. And they aren’t stick for guns, those are muskets and rifles. They just old fashioned. If you don’t like things before world war 1, then I’m guessing you hate legendary medieval style games or those old style hand to hand sword fights or even Assassin’s Creed.
World War 1 FPS should be made. Everyone is sick of WW2 and if you want to put a player on edge, try the slaughter war style of WW1. Though tactically not much interesting. Artillery barrage, climb out of the trench, charge the enemy, get 60% of your men killed and bayonet the enemy.
Vietnam does have a lot of potential for a good FPS, but no Americans care about it as it was a war they lost. The ‘good guys’ lost Vietnam, so they are hated. My uncle fought in Nam, and cops a lot of crap from the public about losing, and is now a wreck, physically and mentally.
If someone were to do something about the gap between WW2 and Modern Warfare, or before WW2, it could be very successful for a change. The change from WW2 to Modern in COD was a massive profit, so surely another change will see the same effects.

There’s a reason why I don’t buy online games for PC anymore.
1. They’re laggy as hell.
2. People can MOD unfairly at any point.
3. It takes forever for glitches and patches to be fixed.
Console games are the way to go. Treyarch really did well, and at least in multiplayer they balanced out the weapon set so when you first start to play you get some good guns that aren’t cheap, like the stupid M16. The campaign was fun, and as far as Co-Op and Nazi Zombies go, they did very well. The new Nazi zombie map is very fun considering you get seperated, mixing it up and making you play more in strategy and not “Let’s just sit in a room and camp all day”. This time you have to keep moving, esspecialy if you want to find the weapon box again. Maybe on PC it sucked, but on the Xbox 360 and PS3 Treyarch did very well when it came to this.

CoD 5 should not be bought for the PC, only the Consoles.

I bet all the people bitching about Treyarch are stupid to NOT sell the fucking game or play CoD 3 Multiplayer, which rocks.
Also, all the people ranting and bitching are ALL playing it on the PC which is a stupid thing to do.
CoD 5 will only do you good on the X360 and PS3
