Will there be female soldiers? Asks fan

Posted by herald On June - 30 - 2009

Game Informer in its June issue had given a chance to all the fans of Modern Warfare 2 to get some questions to be answered by the editor of the game. In this article we are covering few of those questions that were asked by the readers and also the reciprocated answers.

One of the most interesting and important questions that was asked by readers was that whether there would be any female soldiers in the game. Editor replied to this question by saying, “Possibly in multiplayer, since I didn’t get any details about it. In the single-player campaign, you’ll be playing as specific soldiers, just like in the Call of Duty games.”

One more interesting question was asked. It was asked about the characters apart from Capt. MacTavish and “Roach.” The editor said that Makarov is the sociopathic new leader of the Russian ultranationalists. He also added further, “Makarov has taken over from Zakhaev after the events of the first game. In Sao Paolo, there is an arms dealer targeted by Task Force 141 who wasn’t named. Infinity Ward was very concerned about giving out any story spoilers, so that’s about all I can tell you.”

Question was also asked whether Modern Warfare 2 is a complete destruction game or not. The editor replied by saying a big “NO.” He said that there are objects such as electrical transformers and crates, which can be blown up. He also said that the geometry is not destructible.

The name CoD6 more popular than MW2

OTX reveals that Modern Warfare 2 without the tag of Call of Duty is less popular in the US market. OTX says this from its survey.

It said that the awareness of MW2 there has dropped from 40 percent points to 20 percent points without the name of Call of Duty in it.

Nick Williams of the GamePlan Insights division for OTX said, “Up until the beginning of May, OTX had been tracking the title as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. More specifically, we asked a representative group of gamers in the U.S. whether or not they had heard of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. At that time, approximately 40 percent of all gamers in the U.S. claimed that they had heard of this title.”

He also further said, “However, once it became clear that Activision was positioning the title as Modern Warfare 2, OTX removed ‘Call of Duty’ from the consumer survey, and the awareness levels dropped to 20 percent. In other words, the Call of Duty brand association essentially doubles the awareness for the game. That is quite a remarkable statistic.”

Earlier this month the OTX had found through their survey that consumers’ purchase intent for MW2 ranked high. It further reveals that it was still behind games including Bungie’s Halo 3: ODST, Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros., Sony’s God of War 3, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2.

Till now it is not very clear that how the location fits in the storyline of Modern Warfare. One fact is also not clearly known right now that the screenshot is of single player gameplay or else it is a multiplayer map introduction screen.

Modern Warfare 2 has its own identity

Posted by herald On June - 20 - 2009

The industry analysts and Activision has become confident about Modern Warfare 2. They have already predicted recently that this sequence will become the largest selling game in 2009. Now the also comes through sources that Activision is now going to pull out all of the stops in promoting the release of Modern Warfare 2.

It is learned that the entire promotion campaign is still in the final planning stages. Activision has plans to start aggressive marketing from August. The main reason to this is to get pre-order of the title before November 10. It has been also learned that many rewards and incentives will be offered to get gamers to plunk down their deposit for the game.

Modern Warfare 1 sold over 13 million units on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For the second sequence it is being believed that it will be in fact sold based on the name alone.

One thing is to be noted that though there were too many voices coming from gamers as to why the name of CoD has been withdrawn from MW2. But now it seems that Modern Warfare 2 has also made its own identity.

These days when it is talked about role-playing games we always talk about Modern Warfare 2. Why not? The game is always on the news for some reasons. This time it is for a negative reason. Yes. But, it is only a rumor as explained by Infinity Ward officially.

The news came earlier this week that Activision is considering a premium online service for Call of Duty’s online multiplayer.

Infinity Ward in its official forum said that this news that has been flooded in media is a rumour. The community manager of Infinity Ward, Robert Bowling, wrote the following statement:

“This rumour has absolutely nothing to do with Infinity Ward or our games, including Modern Warfare 2. We would never introduce such a system for Modern Warfare 2 so don’t worry.

Multiplayer will always be equal and free for everyone as always.”

With the issue of this statement there was a relief to all the fans of CoD6. Well! If ever this type of news comes in media, it is suggested that do check this website or else the official website of the Infinity Ward for any updates on the game.

Let me remind all the fans once again that Modern Warfare 2 will be launching on November 10 this year and analyst says that it will be the biggest launch of 2009.

The official website also announces that Call of Duty: World at War has surpassed the 11 million units sold from the launch of its first in November last year.

An official statement has been issued giving a thank note to all who purchased CoD: WaW. It reads as below:

These outstanding feats would have never been possible without the continued dedication and support from all of the loyal Call of Duty fans. For that, we at Treyarch and Activision would like to extend our sincerest Thank You. We’re honored and humbled to have one of the greatest online communities in video game history behind our products!

For Treyarch we can say that it is a sure achievement. For Activision we can say that Call of Duty Franchise is one of their biggest franchises ever in.

Recently there was also a statement by the analyst firm Janco Partner. Mike Hickey of Janco Partner said, “We believe Modern Warfare 2 will likely be the largest video game release for [calendar year] 2009. For the Company’s fiscal Q409 period (Dec. ending), we anticipate the sell through to consumers of 11.1 million units for an estimated retail value of $803 million and sell-in approximating 12.4 million units, for an approximated sales value of $666 million (we assume demand is 90% of supply).”

Just a week or two before Activision said to the media that this much awaited game will be the “largest entertainment launch of 2009.” It is also estimated by experts that the sales of Modern Warfare 2 could hit 11.1 million units in 2009 i.e. in only 6 weeks of sales. It is also estimated that on the first day itself the game will make total revenue of $338 million.

Prediction also comes from Gamasutra that this series of CoD will be the largest video game release of the year.

Janco Partners’ Mike Hickey says, “Given our CY09 sell through estimates for Modern Warfare 2, its possible that the game could be one of the largest entertainment releases of all time. If you assume similar channel unit sales velocity as GTA IV, the game could potentially sell through 7.8 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $569 million in the first week.”

MW2 will be a big hit as the other CoD series

Posted by herald On June - 13 - 2009

It is an open fact that the biggest title in 2007 as well as in 2008 were Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: World at War respectively. This is also evident because till today both the games are played too much, especially the 2007 hit CoD4: Modern Warfare.

It is also expected same or even more from the Modern Warfare 2 that is going to be unveiled on November 10 this year. The CEO of Activision Publishing earlier said to the media that they are expecting this much awaited series of the Call of Duty to be a big hit and in fact the biggest title in the videogame industry.

He also said that when the original MW was launched in the year 2007 then it had a substantial jump in consumers engaged in the CoD franchise. He explains further that Modern Warfare 2 will be having a ready purchasers.

He adds, “We also look at Modern Warfare 2 and where it’s strongest on the next-gen platforms of PS3 and Xbox 360. The installed base from the first Modern Warfare to the second one will be nearly double.”

Infinity Ward wanted to make CoD6 look like action movie

Call of Duty has always been known for its slight tweak’s to realism. We all know this. At least it for those gamers who have played the previous games. It says about a heroic journey of a soldier. Modern Warfare was a bit different than the other Call of Duty games. It took this slight tweak and developed it in a huge way by creating one of the best games that any console has ever seen in past few years in the gaming industry on the global platform.

The Modern Warfare is back now with the recent hits such as Killzone 2. Vince Zampella from Infinity Wart lately told to the media, the official magazine of PlayStation that they are going for authenticity and not realism. He said that they are not making a sim, but they are making entertainment. According to him, they want it to look real like that of an action movie.

Zampella also mentioned that they are well aware of the fact that that action movies look good, but they are many times way off from the true thing.

He said that Modern Warefare 2 will be looking to do the same thing. He also said that there is not any mandate that every level has to be a wide open sandbox.

This October comes the challenge of Modern Warfare and Battlefield: Bad Company. Medal of Honor of Electronic Arts is being released on October 12 and it will challenge both the games for the top spot in the FPS genre.

Last week at E3 gaming event the stills and multi-player footage were released. The footage bound to bring comparison with the MW2 and BBC2.

The styles of the game is similar to the MW2 and BBC2, but MoH appears to concentrate on points and not focus on kills as MW2 does.

Below is the footage of Medal of Honor:
