The third highest in entertainment of all time is Halo 3. On its first day it tallied $170 million.

Gaz Deaves, Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition Editor said in a statement that the “Video game releases such as the Call of Duty series have outperformed the launches of major Hollywood blockbusters for several years and the day-one sales for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 proved once again that video games have become cultural events in their own right.”

Activision blizzard has benefited from the grand success of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ after its release last year in November. Accordign to the company, the online update of the game boosted its sales too much in the first quarter.

Activision is recognised as the largest standalone game publisher in the gaming industry and its success graph has risen northward above much of the turmoil in the market. The full credit goes to the blockbuster titles.

Well, analysts have a different say. Some of them noted that the its roster of games for 2010 appears tepid. According to Chief Executive Bobby Kotick, even though it was the fast start for the company in 2010, but the consumer economy remains shaky. This is due to its majority of games are not expected to launch until much later this year.

Not only this, the shares of the company have slipped about 1.3 percent to $11.75 in afternoon Nasdaq trading on last Thursday. Before this, the shares rose about 7 percent this year.

The latest report comes that the two lead designers of Infinity Ward tabled their resignations.

Last month the founders of Infinity Ward, Vince Zampella and Jason West, sued their parent company Blizzard-Activision. They were earlier fired by the company for breach of contract.

After the sacking of Vince and Jason, Infinity Ward has bled about 11 staff members in protest. Most of the employees were the important part of the company.

More interesting is that the staff members continued quitting the organization even after Activision promised to distribute bonuses to those who remain employed.

The drama further speaks different story. The two founding fathers of Infinity Ward are on the way working hard on next venture, aptly named “Respawn Entertainment”.

The twist continues. Electronic Arts, the rival of Activision, recently announced of an official deal to be the sole distributor for Respawn Entertainment.

It was recently announced by Crytek that Richard Morgan has been hired to write the story of the new series. Morgan is an award-winning author of science fiction novels such as Broken Angels and Altered Carbon.

On the occasion he said, “Video games are one of the only things in my life I would qualify as a complete addiction… The medium has every bit the potential for exciting and emotionally charged storytelling as literature and film, and I’m excited to explore this format on my first project in partnership with a world class developer like Crytek.”

Richard Morgan, however, thinks that video games have vast storytelling potential. While talking to the media, he had a few critiques for the writers behind MW2. He said, “I thought Modern Warfare 2 was an immense disappointment. It was a massive step down from CoD4.”

He added further, “What I thought when I played it was, ‘Jesus guys, what have you been doing? You’ve not ramped anything up. The story is worse and the game doesn’t really hang together, it’s just a bunch of mission levels.”
