MW1 vs. MW2
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:23:10 PM »
First of all, I play on PC so some of my comments may seem more geared towards PC play and some about the game in general.  I am really unhappy with MW2 and can barely stand to play it.  In fact, I comment on it more than I play it.  Steam just updated me to the .184 patch today.  I googled the patch to see what they had changed and all that came up was hack sites saying they have already cracked it and have released their own patches so the hacking programs will still work. I tried to play it tonight and it was business as usual wallhack and aimbots everywhere.  Its time to retire MW2 online.  The IWNet/Steam combo is a dismal failure and they will never be able to level the playing field online by removing hacks.  They just can't do it.  The gameplay is extremely degraded and unfair.

In contrast, MW1 still has dedicated servers and they are busier than ever.  I wonder why.  I have been playing it instead of MW2 and enjoying it immensely.  You have a wide range of game types to go into.  If you don't like noobtubes, their are servers that don't allow them.  I played for hours and never seen one hack...not one.  Many of the servers will not allow profane remarks and racial slurs.  A lot of the MW2 immaturity, profanity, insults, and racism is simply not there in MW1.  You can filter the types of servers you want to view.  The gameplay was much more realistic.  You have bombers and helicopters but you don't get bombarded by multiple aircraft at the same time and the helicopters don't spawncamp.  I don't know if aircraft spawncamping is a PC thing, hack, or even if it exists on consoles, but it does exist on the PC.  I have seen harriers hover over spawn in points picking people off as they are spawning in.  I have literal seen piles of bodies lined up by harriers.  There was strategy and people seemed to be playing as a team instead of a giant free for all with some people you don't have to shoot.

While I like a lot of the weapons in MW2 and there are more of them, I can live with the weapons in MW1 and I have really good graphics so I didn't feel like I was losing that much in graphics advancement.  I also wasn't losing connections and was able to join every server I tried to join without getting kicked or timed out unlike IWNet.  The best thing is that there is private match XP in MW1 which has been one of my biggest complaints about MW2 with no private match XP.  My friends and I can gain rank and unlock weapons playing each other, which is how it should be.  Ironically, IW is the company that came up with this great game in MW1 that I like and destroyed the next installment.

It really doesn't matter anymore.  The game is screwed up either way.  The game is filled with a bunch of supermen who can't be killed, can shoot through walls, knifing through bullets...its rediculous.  I've liked every version of this game except this one...5 out of 6 isn't bad.  No amount of patches is going to fix it.  Even without the hacks its Halo: Modern Warfare.  If you like that then it is a good game to play.  If you want teamwork, realism, and strategy...this is not the game to play because it has none of that.

teamwork and strategy has nothing to do with the game its the people who play it. no one would like tgme game with no respawn, extra health, perks, or killstreaks. i nvr heard this problem euring any other game and that includes zombies

I could live with everything the way it is in PC online play if they could get rid of the hacks.  If I was having to hunt campers or snipers or use one weapon to counter another that is one thing.  Going after people with hacks is another.  The only way to counter a hack is with another hack and that makes me as bad as they are because I will be kiling people using hacks who may not be using them.  It seems as if every match has at least one suparman who can't be killed running faster than the actual game perks allow absorbing bullets knife glitching all over the place.  It seems as if I am playing most online matches against one or two people and the rest are cannon fodder.  There is no fair counter to that only a hack.  I don't want all the perks gone or killstreaks and respawns.  I want the hacks gone.  I want fair play online for all players.  Is that so bad?  I know it is not realistic because the Internet is full of hacks and cheats and nobody has any morals or code of ethics they live by anymore.  Cheating is the norm now and honest play is in the minority.  Its pathetic.

Hey Outlaw.  You should come and post on the other site.  It is a bit more personal.  Perhaps there are people there who can help contact IW with your thoughts.  I don't know how to help because I don't play on PC but maybe somebody else might be able to.

The problem is with the PC.  I have been playing first person shooter games on the PC since the orginal Doom.  I am not comfortable with consoles or controllers, especially with a game as fast paced at MW2.  The PC has always been my gaming format and always will be.  IW abondoned proven technology in punkbuster and deicated servers for online play in favor of the newer IWNet peer to peer server technology and Steam's Valve anti-cheat antihacker technology.  The problem is that IWNet and Valve-Anti-Cheat are bother dismal failures.  IWNet kicks you from servers all the time, locks up, lags, freezes, and generally malfunctions all the time.  Steam's valve-Anti cheat technology at least as far as MW2 is concerned is also a dismal failure at preventing game hacking.  Punkbuster was the previous technology and is still in use the other versions of COD and works well.  I have never had any of these issues prior to this game.  IW has so much invested in IWNet (a failure) that they simply won't admit their issues because it would cost them a furtune to reverse their course now.  It easier to bury your head in the sand and pretend the problem doesn't exist and talk about how many copies of the game you have sold or how many user IDs have been created.  I guess it doesn't matter that most of the honest PC players who bought this can't stand to play it anymore.  We bought the game.  We have a steam ID so I guess they can add that to their stats.  Nevermind that most of the steam ids are useless because people don't play the game anymore.

Its not unusual to have 2 or 3 hacks per game anymore sometimes even more.  I never thought I would long for the days when there was just a hack in every other level.  Now I am happy when there is just one superman running around murdering everyone in sight that can't be killed.  The last match I was in had a guy that ran through 2 claymores and my gunfire with FMJ and all of my teams gunfire to kill everyone in the room by knifing them.  He killed people who were all firing at him strolling through claymores along the way that were exploding in his face.  IW has shown very little concern for this and done very little to stop hackers.  I would say that 30-40 percent of PC players are running some kind of hack. That is not an exageration.  There are entire forums devoted to it. Its probably even worse than I think.   Many of them allow you to control whether you can die or not or things such as double damage, double health, aimbots, shoot through wall, infinite ammo, etc.  Just because a person registers a few deaths at the end of the game doesn't mean they weren't hacking,  I have personally been in several matches that only lasted a few minutes because there was so much hacking going on.  I don't understand why someone would want to hack.  To me it would ruin the game.  However some people just don't care...much like Infinity Ward.  They don't care.  Either that or the hackers are smarter than they are.  If they don't change their online technology or use a different technology and go back to dedicated servers they will alientate the PC community and sales will suffer.  PC users will be extremely leary of the next installment and I predict lower sales for the next version because MW2 PC online is such a wreck.

i see where you're coming from, hacking can really get annoying (i've plyed a few free fps's). The xbox is kinda the same, i think people hack the servers to get stuff like a 12 person cage match, or a super slow-mo room. I dunno since Im on the ps3 and nothing bad really happens on the ps3..

Reading what you've posted, I can also see why more people are going back to cod4- hackers. IW also dont seem to be doing anything about it. But there's this group..'Insert Cleaver Title Here Productions' who all play on the PC, and they dont seem to get any hackers in their matches..

if anything, part of the blame goes to steam, as well as IW i guess.
