CoD6 getting unveiled at E3

Posted by herald On June - 2 - 2009

CoD6 is getting unveiled at the E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Convention on Tuesday. This will be a rare early look of Call of Duty 6. It seems the studio is putting some finishing touches to the game.

The game is like one of its seemingly impossible missions. Players as an elite fight specialist will follow the task force leader Captain “Soap” MacTavish. He climbs a sheer ice floe in the land of Kazakhstan.

The sound of the crunch louds as the ice ax and crampons penetrate the frozen cliff face. Players will, in the game, attempt a death-defying leap, a gap in a cliff ledge. When the players fall, McTavish grabs on and pulls to safety.

On its way, players also join in Black Hawk Down-style urban fight in the towns of Rio de Janeiro. There are also infiltration in Afghanistan cave camp and of course wage underwater battles.

UPDATE: Some people are reporting that this list is a hoax.
———————————————–

A list of features leaked by a game tester on the four two zero site.

So far this list hasn’t be confirmed or denied by IW or Activision but the list seems entirely plausible. There are definitely plenty of people who have had access to the game, so it’s about time some info leaked out.

Call of Duty 6 Perk Ideas - V2

Posted by admin On February - 25 - 2009

The other post I made a couple weeks ago is totally over loaded with replies. It has almost 200 comments on the blog post plus however many pages on the forum thread. Clearly this topic is one that’s important to people, so I made this post with a better and longer list.

Eventually I’d like to put all the perk ideas into a poll and let users vote on which one they like the best, then maybe we can forward the results to IW.

Before you do anything, check out the official IW idea page. You can submit your ideas directly to Infinity Ward.

#1- FIRST AND FOREMOST

FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THAT IS NOT NOOBISH, PLEASE GET RID OF MARTYDOM. PLEASE. I mean for gods sakes, at least with noobstand you have to use SOME SORT of skill to shoot people. Martyrdom is just a terrible perk that was invented by the devil. Every time a noob gets a martyrdom kill, god kills a kitten. You don’t hate kittens do you IW devs? For the sake of the kittens, make it stop!

Bring Back the Friends Feature

Treyarch, bless their little hearts, tried their best with WaW, the friends feature is one of the few good things they managed to get done. Bring the friends option back but I’d like to have an option to be alerted when a friend comes online or enters a server.

Better Stats

Can’t we get some sort of stats tracking that would give you your global rank? Almost like an online AWSTATS only for Call of Duty. I’d love to know what my global rank is…I wonder if I’m in the top 5,000? Top 10,000? I think Battlefield has this but I’m not sure because I only play COD.

More Weapon Attachments / More Combos

The ability to use a combo like ACOG + Silencer. This could possibly cause balance issues for the devs, I don’t know, but it would be cool. Also just more attachments in general to choose from.

Reduce Recoil

This perk would make the AK47 completely SICK. I suspect the devs would run into some balance issues with this perk. But still a nice idea.

Monkey: ability to climb trees

Awesome idea IMO. Would be great for sniping too. I played on a few custom maps where you could climb trees and it was really fun. I’d love to see this. A more interactive environment would be awesome.

Destructible Environment

I think this is a great idea. It’s kind of silly when you call an airstrike on a little tiny shack and the shack protects you from like 3 x 500LB bombs. If they don’t make walls destructible with things like nades and launchers, at least make them destructible when an airstrike is called ya know? Unless there are no airstrikes in COD6 in which case disregard this entire post.

Pick Up Grenades and Flashes

Makes good sense, you can pick up guns and ammo, why not flashes and nades?

Increase Running Speed Perk (not stamina)

A perk for being able to run faster. Would be nice for people who like to knife and use shotty.

Something after 7 kills

Personally I’d like to see one more thing, perhaps a nice little something at like 15 kills. It kind of sucks to get to 15+ in a row and have nothing to look forward to. Even something at 20 would be cool.

Play Dead

Previously discussed, self explanatory.

Control the heli + able to be killed while in the heli

“After you get a 7 kill streak and call your chopper you will be the one actually responsible for kills. You are the machine gunner. Your helicopter cannot be shot down but you can be shot off of the mounted machine gun. Once you are shot your helicopter flys away.” Idea pulled from this post on the forum.

Character Customization

There should be a little more customization to the characters than just weapons, everyone is different. I mean for each side (green and red) there should be certain outfits you can choose from. Or instead of doing that, have options for Clans to make their own uniform from head to toe. Example- You join a clan you gain options to have custom fittings for your character, and you unlock more as more of the people in the clan ranks get higher and higher, you get more options. And the Clan leader chooses the colors and symbol for the clan. Maybe you unlock more things as you reach a prestige.

Remove eavesdrop

Nobody uses it, it’s probably the most non-used and worthless perk there is. At least on PC, dunno about consoles. Just seems like a wasted slot where something better could be.

Laser Beam Sights

They have the beams in single player of COD4, dunno why they didn’t add it to MP too.

360 / PC / PS3 Compatible

I know, I know. Everyone is going to start screaming that it’s impossible, it’s not impossible and I’m sick of hearing that. There should be some sort of OPTION, so I can play with my friends across all platforms. I understand the mouse gives me an advantage, I understand my graphics card gives me an advantage. Like I said before, if we can send men to the moon I’m pretty sure we can give the players the ability to play with their buddies across platforms. If IW makes this happen I will buy all the devs hookers form the bunny ranch and have them shipped to the IW headquarters. Make it happen! I want to shoot my friends in the face and then teabag them! ;D

Better Sniper Zoom

A perk that allows the sniper rifle to zoom in 2X or maybe even 3X like in Counter Strike Source.

OK that’s all for tonight, I can’t sift through anymore of the ideas. I have 200 comments in the blog post and 14 pages on the forum. Maybe I’ll update this post again tomorrow.

PS3, 360, and PC players together on Multiplayer?

Posted by admin On February - 19 - 2009

Why can’t this be done? I’ve seen it discussed a few times and never really came away with a real answer. Ironically, it usually deteriorates into a flame war about who is more skilled. Which if the idea was ever implemented we would have our answer.

Usually the answer I see given is something to do with servers and requiring too much effort on everyones part. In other words Sony, or whoever pays to host the PS3 servers would have to allow PC users to eat their bandwidth and likewise for PC server owners and Microsoft’s servers.

So is that it? Sony, Microsoft, and PC server owners are too stingy to cooperate with each other? I actually have no doubt that most all PC servers would have no problem with 360/PS3 players coming on. I think the real people holding it up would probably be Sony and Microsoft, two pretty shitty companies as far as customer treatment goes, especially Sony.

I just fail to accept that something can’t be done about this. I for one have 5 different friends that play Call of Duty regularly. Two are on PC, 1 is on PS3, and 2 on 360. All I’ve ever wanted is to be able to play a game together with everyone, is that really so much to ask? We can send men to the moon but we can’t play a damn game of Call of Duty together on the same server? Bullshit.

Someone on the forum pointed out this page from an online retail store, they have the release date set at November 13th 2009

Is it just me or do I remember this exact same thing happening with the WaW release date? And if I’m correct, is this the same retailer that did this release date leaking with WaW? And finally, and most importantly, when they “leaked” the release date for WaW, was the retailer correct in the end or wrong?

Ken Lally is doing the voice for Modern Warfare 2

Posted by admin On February - 3 - 2009
I don’t think I have ever heard this guys voice, I play very few games and Heroes definitely isn’t one of them. Apparently Activision got their panties in a twist over the news and forced the source of this story to remove it off their homepage. What’s the big deal anyway? So wow, we now know it’s Modern Warfare 2 and that Ken Lally is doing the voice, big deal. Furthermore, the voice isn’t exactly a huge deal. I’m much more interested to know important stuff like the guns that will be used and perks which will be avalible.
——————————
With all the recent talk of having Call of Duty 6 ready for a 2009 release, it should come as no surprise that COD6 (or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, if you’re a purist) is knee-deep in development. So says famed voice actor Ken Lally (RE5 star and Heroes veteran), who revealed to Coin-Op TV (see 45:30 mark of video) that he has done voice work for “Call of Duty 6,” in addition to Dragon Age: Origins. How’s that for confirmation? Sort of makes Activision’s “speculative” comment seem …. well, speculative.

Update: We have removed this post from our front page at the request of Ken Lally, who is in some “hot water.” C’mon Activision, what’d Ken really do wrong? Confirm his voice is in a game you already announced? He promoted your game — for free! Let’s cut the guy a break. Sheesh.

What are some of the features you would like to see IW keep?

Posted by admin On December - 11 - 2008

Most people can see by looking at COD4 and COD5 that IW is clearly the superior game developer. The question is, even though Treyarch is a bad developer, are there any features from Call of Duty 5 that you’d like to see brought back in Call of Duty 6?

I would definetly like to see the prestige mode come back only with better rewards for completing a prestige than just a new custom class. Perhaps some cool gun skins or something. Also, I was playing on a server last night that gave 4000pts per kill. So everytime you scored a kill, your rank went up by atleast 1. Obviously this totally ruins the whole idea behind prestige mode because it makes your rank basically worthless. Nobody knows who really spend the time to earn their rank and who just went to a fast rank server. For that reason I have decided to remain at lvl 65 with 0 prestige. I mean, what’s the point?

Another thing I like about Call of Duty 5 that I’d like to see brought back for COD6 is the lack of nade spam. I’m sure you’ve noticed that the nades in COD6 do much less damage and have a smaller blast area. This makes for a much more enjoyable game in my opinion.

I’ll post more of my thoughts soon. What are your thoughts?

Call of Duty 6 Confirmed!

Posted by admin On December - 9 - 2008

Activision has named practically its entire 2009 line-up at an in-game advertiser meeting, including Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Speaking at an ‘upfront’ meeting with in-game ad company Massive Inc. (responsible for the famous Obama Burnout Paradise ad), Activision named its 2009 games including tentatively titled Guitar Hero 5, a new Tony Hawk’s and Modern Warfare 2.

The sixth CoD game was already confirmed to be under Infinity Ward’s wing (and not World at War dev Treyarch), but this news thankfully confirms that number six isn’t the rumored sci-fi spin-off we were dreading.

No details on the game were released, though it was roughly dated for release in autumn 2009.

In the meeting, Activision also confirmed that in the new Tony Hawk’s “you’re not going to be playing this game with a controller in your hands.” It’s out on PS3, 360, Wii and DS in October. We smell a peripheral coming…

Bizarrely (ho ho), the publisher also confirmed PGR dev Bizarre Creations’ first Activision racer will be a James Bond game. In fact it’ll be an original racing game that’s been described as “Mario Kart meets Forza”. Read more on that here.

We spoke to Activision this afternoon but unfortunately the company wasn’t able to provide any further details about the new games. Don’t hold your breath either, as it seems unlikely there’ll be anything more on them until early next year, but don’t let that stop you speculating in the meantime.

Electronic Arts (EA) been throwing punches at Modern Warfare 2 for sometime claiming that the new Battlefield: Bad Company from the DICE studio would have dedicated servers for the PC gamers. It will be valuing the importance of PC gameplay and also customization of it.
electronicarts
Jens Uwe, headmaster of the European division of EA, said in an interview on Friday, “In March we will launch Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which is our first strong attack on Call Of Duty… The shooter space is one we don’t want to give up. It’s an important genre and we were the number one. So we are certainly working on how we can get that crown back and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is an important product in that context.”

One who has played first Bad Company as well as the Modern Warfare titles may be knowing well that the games are very different in style and also in gunplay. We may also have found out that DICE is on the way of making some changes in it such as making the enemies more easier to kill to fall in line.
